Food is a necessity for everyone. It is also a way to respond to one’s lifestyle. Under the influence of climate change and global trade, the food system has become much more complex, making consumers more dependent on food labeling to understand its source and contents of the food products. In addition, food safety is not only about health and sanitation, but it is also related to risk management, risk awareness, and affordability for consumers. Therefore, food ethics and food safety issues are not just about the relationships between producers and consumers. It is more about the relationships between every stakeholder including various nations and regions, markets, community groups, industries, and consumer groups. Together we can define the new system of food risk management, and remodel multiple social relations. We want to welcome a wide range of discussions in this session: risk governance and public participation on food issues, the implementation and maintenance of consumer rights, risk communication and media, food science and the application of technology to democracy.
